La Faust Academy Arc: 46 Dance and the Relaxing Heart

La Faust Academy Arc
46 Dance and the Relaxing Heart

Elegant music floated throughout the dance hall.
Right now, they were in a class for ballroom dancing.

Naturally, Meru was beside Seiya.
They were watching the students dancing beautifully.
For the young men and young ladies, ballroom dancing was an essential skill. The students were currently dancing a slow foxtrot. However, it had surprisingly difficult steps and rhythm, and the fluid movements made while dancing meant that it wasn’t something easy to master.
At the moment, you could easily see which students were quite skilled and which students stepped on their partner’s toes over and over again.

“Kotokura-san, you aren’t going to dance?”

Meru asked Seiya next to her without taking her eyes from the dancing students. During this class, Seiya was awfully quiet.

“I don’t wanna dance even if I go to a ball, ya know? Who would dance in class.”
“Oh? So the truth is you can’t dance.”

When Meru spoke provocatively, Seiya looked at Meru with eyes colder than usual.

“If yer sayin’ that seriously, I’ll hit ye.”

Seiya, who would usually brush it off as a joke, said that in a serious tone, so Meru shrugged her shoulders.

“Ahh, is that so.”

The dance teacher called out to Meru as she was watching the dancing.

“It’s Kusuhara-san, correct? I have yet to see your dance, why don’t you dance a number?”

The sweet-looking female teacher asked Meru. Resting her chin in her hands, Meru was a little surprised that it wasn’t Seiya, but the teacher who would bring that up.
Since it was the teacher’s request, Meru readily consented.

“Then, your partner will be… Could I request that you join her, Minohara-san?”

Saying so, the teacher recommended Shin.
At the back of the classroom in the midst of seducing a girl, Shin grinned saying, “Ehh,” and approached Meru.
When Shin came before Meru, she made a wholeheartedly unpleasant expression.

“Even if you make that face, if I’m gonna dance, I’d prefer it to be with an ultra-beauty, too.”

Shin spoke with a smile.
A tense atmosphere surrounded Meru and Shin.

Shin and Meru danced a quick step.
It was a dance with leaping and prancing in which it was important to infuse quick movements with grace; it was a difficult style in which it was easy to trip or step on one’s partner’s feet. Shin and Meru danced alone in the center of the large dance hall.
Just like the momentum, the compatibility between the partners also had an effect on the quick movements.
Meru glared through half-closed at Shin who chose this dance.

–There was no way it would turn out well.

However, when the dance began, she had to reconsider that thought.

“Hmm. You’re pretty good.”
“You as well.”

Meru reciprocated to Shin.
Truthfully, Shin’s dance was beautiful. He had precisely proper movements. If you partnered with him, you would understand. His lead was gentle and it was easy to keep up with his body.
Even when compared to the previously dancing students, he was the cream of the crop.
Meru couldn’t help admiring him while feeling discontented.

“Shin-sama’s dancing is more sharp than usual.”

The female students said admiringly.
Just so, Meru was the first partner he had with whom he could display his skills to such an extent.
The students and the teacher all realized that.

Everyone fixed their eyes upon their dance which unbelievably had a life of its own, forgetting the passage of time.

Meru and Shin both increased the sharpness of their dance, both refusing to lose to the other.

“Aren’t you tired? You look like you’re about to collapse.”
“That should be you, you’re staggering. Please don’t step on me.”

Meru and Shin grinned at each other. At that time–

Bam.

Seiya forced his way between them. He pulled apart their hands which were clasped together.

“Seiya?”
“Ko-Kotokura-sama? What is the matter?”

At Seiya’s unexpected behavior, Shin and the teacher were both considerably bewildered.

“I’ll do it.”

Shin and the teacher’s eyes, as well as those of the students, grew round at Seiya’s words.

“Ko-Kotokura-sama. There is no need for you to go out of your way to dance since we are taking a look at Kusuhara-san’s skill, so…”
“I’m saying I will dance, but is there a problem?”

When Seiya said it like that, the teacher couldn’t say anything.

Shin narrowed his eyes at Seiya.

Seiya lined up next to Meru. His expression was extremely displeased.
When Meru was thinking that it seemed like he very much wanted to harass her with his own hands, Seiya spoke in an incredibly glum voice.

“Dance with me. Think of it as an honor.”
“Haa…”

The teacher sighed as if to say whatever will be will be and started the music.

Only Meru and Seiya stood in the middle of the dance hall.
Everyone was watching their dance.

And then Meru knew the real reason why the teacher didn’t want to have Seiya dance.
It wasn’t for the simple reason that Seiya had a high social status.

Seiya was, to put it plainly, bad at dancing.
Now, Meru and Seiya were dancing the basic party dance–the blues style, a simple dance that only relied on being aware of your steps. However, Seiya had already stepped on Meru’s feet several times. One could tell whether or not it was intentional from Seiya’s expression.

Meru understood that that was why he had been oddly quiet.

“Kotokura-san. Please relax yourself. It’s ok to leave yourself to me.”

Meru said and began to lead Seiya. He was led by hand by Meru, and as he moved his feet in accordance with her, his clumsy movements became natural and beautiful.

When the song finished, Seiya’s stiff movements were relaxed and had become pleasant to watch.

“Bravo!”

The teacher applauded for Meru.

Meru stared at Seiya.

“What. If yer gonna make fun of me, do as ya like.”

With his knitted brows, Seiya spoke as though he was truly embarrassed.

“Unexpectedly, you also have your cute points.”
“Wh…!”

Meru smiled cheerfully.
Seeing that, Seiya held his objections in spite of himself.

Meru went to the bathroom.

“That was unexpected.”

While washing her hands, Meru recalled her previous dance with Seiya and murmured.
That Seiya had something he wasn’t good at. With just that, his humanity instantly received an upgrade.

While thinking so and washing her hands, Meru went to draw her handkerchief from her skirt pocket and directed her gaze there.

“A commoner should know their place as a commoner.”

That voice reached Meru’s ears.
Meru hurriedly looked over her shoulder and surveyed the area, but that student was already no longer there.

Seiya and Shin were alone in the special affairs room.

“That you would dance…is way too unexpected. Since it was so sudden, I forgot to take a video. I seriously can’t believe it.”

Shin said while cackling.
No matter what ball or party Seiya was invited to, he definitely wouldn’t dance. No matter which young lady begged him, he consistently rejected them. It was because of the Kotokura name that he could do that.
At any rate, being able to see Seiya’s dance was rather invaluable.

“And so, why did the Kotokura Seiya-sama who hates dancing, dance?”
“It’s not somethin’ ye’d understand.”
“If it was something like you didn’t want to see Kusuhara-chan holding hands and dancing up close with me, it’d be pretty amusing.”

When Shin said that, grinning, Seiya did not reply and simply averted his gaze from Shin.

At that reaction, Shin’s eyes widened.

“Eh?”
“Yer annoying.”

Seiya threw a fallen cushion at Shin.

“That woman…she seriously drives me mad. Even though at first, I was gonna make her prostrate herself before me…”

Seiya said and covered his face as though to suppress his feelings, looking upward.

“When I’m with that woman, I can’t help but feel relaxed. …What’s with this.”

Shin stared at Seiya muttering that.

“That’s a sickness, Seiya.”

Shin’s eyes were tainted by darkness.
